Nail Services VTCT Level 3 (NVQ) Diploma

What qualification will I achieve?
VTCT Level 3 (NVQ) Diploma in Nail Services, which is an internationally recognised qualification
How long is the course?
The course is approximately 2 ½ days a week for the academic year. This will include practical work in the college salon as well as theory work. The college salon is run as a commercial salon and is open to the general public.

You will also be expected to study Functional Skills. Functional Skills will be an integral part of the beauty therapy course.

What are the entry requirements?
You should have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above. English, science or human biology are desirable but not essential. Entry is by interview.

Mature students who do not have formal educational qualifications will be considered on the basis of their previous experience and achievements.

What subjects will I study?
You will learn about:
Nail Services – manicure, pedicure, monitor procedures to safely control work operations, enhance and maintain nails using UV gel, liquid and powder and fibreglass wraps. Plan and create nail art designs including 3d acrylic and gel designs. Airbrush nail art designs.
Functional Skills form part of your course. They help you to improve your English and maths and to gain a qualification at either Level 1 or Level 2.

Functional Skills support your main course as well as developing essential skills that you will need in the workplace and life in general. They are taught by specialists and meet your individual needs.

How will I be assessed?
All the practical work is assessed in salon on clients. You will also prove your knowledge of practical work through oral questions. There are assignments and on line tests in each area. A portfolio of evidence is built up throughout the course.

This is a professional qualification and high standards of personal appearance and conduct will be required. Most assessments are carried out in the salon and must be to a professional standard.

Are there any additional costs?
The dress code for this course is purple tunic and brown trousers, brown cardigan, flat brown shoes, fob watch and name badge (these can be ordered through College).
You will be required to purchase a nail kit s that will enable you to practice at home, kits lists will be given out at interview.

The college provides all other equipment and tools needed for the course.

NVQ Level 3 Nail Services prepares you for employment in the nail industry.
You may also wish to widen your qualifications by studying evening courses such as: Indian Head Massage, Body Massage and Beauty Therapy etc.
