Leadership and Management Skills ILM Award

This course aims to give practicing or potential first line managers the foundation for their formal development in this role. The qualification does this by developing basic management skills and assisting participants in gaining the basic knowledge required at this level.

The ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management Skills has been designed to develop the leadership and management skills of practicing or aspiring first line managers. It is a concise qualification consisting of three mandatory units. Candidates are taken through problem solving and decision making techniques in the first unit, explore leadership styles in the second unit, and finally in the third unit of this qualification candidates look at motivating and developing teams.

The ILM qualifications are a series of flexible programs which can be tailored to meet employers needs; employers can custom build a qualification focusing on the key areas of first line management that are most relevant to the demands of a specific role, industry or organisation. From managing health and safety to planning change in the workplace, the ILM qualifications can be fully tailored to meet the varying needs of learners across all employment sectors.

All learners gain free studying membership of ILM for one year designed to help candidates get the most from their course and advance their management career, studying membership gives access to a wide range of specialist  support and development materials and services.

What qualification will I achieve?

ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management.

How long is the course?

The course runs for 30 hours and is typically delivered over 10 evening sessions.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will normally be either practising or aspiring first line managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

How will I learn?

Through a series of taught sessions and interactive workshops.

What subjects will I study?

  • Unit M3.01; Solving problems and making decisions
  • Unit M3.10; Introduction to leadership
  • Unit 3.36; Leading a team effectively

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by a mixture of work-based assignments, reflective reviews, knowledge reviews; oral presentations, role-play/scenarios and written reports.

What opportunities will this lead to?

ILM Diploma in Leadership and Management.
