Team Leading ILM NVQ 2

This is a generic qualification which can enable individuals to develop career opportunities within any sector or industry and as such the opportunities are limitless. It is aimed at supervisors and team leaders whose duties primarily include: leading people, inspiring better performance, and motivating others to succeed.

What qualification will I achieve?

ILM Level 2 NVQ in Team Leading

How long is the course?

The qualification is normally delivered over a period of 9-12 months and can be partially accredited through this period. Some participants, who are already competent and who are able to collect and present a portfolio of evidence without too much difficulty, may well complete the qualification within a few months. Others, who need to undertake some development activity and then apply their learning in the workplace to demonstrate competence, may find that they need longer.

What are the entry requirements?

No formal entry qualifications are required. Participants should normally be employed in a supervisory or team leading role.

An initial assessment may need to be undertaken to determine the appropriate NVQ level.

How will I learn?

Where your underpinning knowledge requires further development, a flexible learning programme of taught workshops, distance or on-line learning, can be arranged to suit individual needs.

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are different from qualifications gained through traditional methods of gaining knowledge or skills.

ILM Team Leader NVQ is designed to establish and recognise a supervisor or team leaders current competence within his/her job, through a variety of assessment methods assessed against nationally recognised and approved standards. These assessment methods include:

  • observation,
  • questioning,
  • assessment evidence of knowledge and skills

What subjects will I study?

The standards of performance, which form the basis of this qualification, are structured around the four key supervisory and team leading roles:

  • Manage your own resources
  • Provide leadership for your team
  • Develop productive working relationships with colleagues
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risk to health and safety (ENTO unit A)

You will be required to take six Units:

  • Four mandatory units that focus upon general areas (shown above)
  • Two optional units, which you can choose to match to your job role.

Your Assessor/Advisor will explain the procedure and agree your optional units with you in two ways:

  • initial group induction
  • one to one advice and assessment

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is normally by a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates that you can perform to the level, described by the relevant standards. You will be assigned a personal advisor who will help you assemble your portfolio and prepare you for assessment. Assessment methods include observation, questioning, personal reports, discussions, witness testimonies and collecting products of work (such as notes, or memos, reports, and records of contact between work colleagues).

You will receive one to one assessor/advisor support throughout.

What opportunities will this lead to?

Candidates can progress onto an ILM Level 3 NVQ in Management or an ILM level 3 Certificate or Introductory Certificate in First Line Management.

Candidates who achieve the ILM Level 2 NVQ in Team Leading will be eligible to apply for ILM Associate Membership. (AminstLM)
