This NVQ is a work-based qualification that is suitable for anyone who undertakes front office duties in their employment.

What qualification will I achieve?
Diploma/National Vocational Qualification Level 2.This is also part of the qualification credit framework.

How long is the course?
The NVQ is work-based and is designed to reflect the skills and knowledge of people who work in the hospitality industry.  The qualification is taken over 6-9 months depending on each individual.

What subjects will I study?
Four Mandatory Units as follows (11 credits)

• Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
• Work effectively as part of a hospitality team
• Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

In addition, students must complete two optional units from the following menu (26 credits)

• Deal with the arrival of customers
• Deal with bookings
• Prepare customer accounts and deal with departures
• Maintain and deal with payments
• Deal with communications as part of the reception function.
• Provide tourism information to customers

Students must also complete two optional units from

• Handle mail and book external services
• Resolve customer service problems
• Identify and provide tourism related information and advice
• Produce documents in a business environment
• Use office equipment
• Communicate in a business environment
• Provide reception service
• Store and retrieve information
• Promote additional services or products to customers
• Deal with customers across a language divide
• Maintain customer service through effective handover
• Maintain and deal with payments
• Employment rights and responsibilities in the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector

How will I be assessed?
The NVQ is assessed on practical aptitude and a portfolio of work.

What opportunities will this lead to?
Diploma/NVQ Level 3 in Hospitality Supervision, Management or Business Administration.
