What qualification will I achieve?
Diploma/National Vocational Qualification Level 2 in Food and Drink Service.  This qualification is also part of the Qualification credit framework.

How long is the course?
The NVQ/Diploma is a work-based qualification and is suitable for anyone who undertakes food and Beverage service duties within hospitality.

What subjects will I study?
Four mandatory units as follows (15 credits)

• Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
• Work effectively as part of a hospitality team.
• Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
• Maintain food safety when storing, holding and serving food

In addition, students must complete four out of 21 optional units from the following: (22 credits)

• Maintain and deal with payments
• Prepare and clear away areas for counter/takeaway service
• Provide a counter takeaway service
• Prepare and clear areas for table service
• Serve food at the table
• Provide a silver service
• Provide a buffet/carvery service
• Prepare and clear the bar area
• Serve alcoholic and soft drinks
• Prepare and serve cocktails
• Prepare and serve wines
• Prepare cellars and kegs
• Clean drinks and dispense lines
• Prepare and serve dispensed and instant hot drinks
• Prepare and serve hot drinks using specialist equipment
• Receive, store and issue drinks stock
• Resolve customer service problems
• Promote additional services or products to customers
• Deal with customers across the language divide
• Maintain customer service through effective handover
• Employment rights and responsibilities in the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector

How will I be assessed?
The NVQ is assessed on practical aptitude and a portfolio of work.
