Manual Handling CIEH

In 2007/08 nearly 109 000 injuries to employees caused absences of more than 3 days. Approximately half of these were injuries caused by handling, lifting or carrying. This qualification is aimed at anyone who carries out manual handling activities at work by introducing them to the hazards of manual handling, the risks involved and the controls available to prevent injury, and enabling them to contribute to the development of safer manual handling methods. Delegates will be introduced to the hazards and risks involved in manual handling, the controls available to prevent injury and techniques for safer lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects.

What qualification will I achieve?

CIEH Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling

How long is the course?

This is a 3 hour programme and is typically delivered in one half-day session.

What are the entry requirements?

The qualification is aimed at all employees. There are no formal entry requirements. Assessment is by a multiple choice exam therefore a good level of literacy is recommended.

How will I learn?

Through a mixture of tutor delivery, active participation and group discussions.

What subjects will I study?

Delegates will cover the following topics:

  • The process of Manual Handling in the Workplace
  • Manual Handling injuries and the activities which cause them
  • Manual Handling assessment and control options
  • Responsibilities imposed by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by a one-hour multiple choice exam consisting of 30 questions of which 20 must be answered correctly.

There are no additional costs. The quoted fee includes all relevant registration, exam fees and course book(s).
