Paediatric First Aid
Paediatric first aid training is required by EYFS Statutory Framework and Ofsted for all primary schools, nurseries and early years providers (those dealing with the under 8’s) the course is also suitable for Pre-school staff / Nursery Staff / Play workers/ Children centre staff / Teachers / LSA's & MTA's / Holiday Campworkers / Parent & Toddler group volunteers / Childminders & Nannies /Foster carers / Au pairs / Mother's helps / Babysitters / Community workers /Youth Workers / Parents, Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles.
Government guidelines for child carers state that first-aid training must cater for practitioners caring for children in the absence of their parents, be a minimum of 12 hours, cover what to include ina first-aid kit for babies and children, demonstrate resuscitation techniques using models of babies and children, and give practitioners a chance to practice on models of each age group and include how to record accidents and incidents appropriately.
This course meets Ofsted requirements for registered childminders and the requirements for first aid for nannies under the Department for Children, Schools and Families Approved Carers Scheme. This course meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework. It can also be used as evidence for employees working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education.
The course focuses heavily on dealing with child and infant first aid and is useful to those who take children away from the school or the nursery setting, on walks to the park or to catch a bus to activities.
How long is the course?
This is a 12 hour course and is usually delivered as two 6 hour days, or 3 lots of four-hour evening sessions.
How will I learn?
Learning is facilitated through presentations, discussion, practical tasks and a delegate workbook is provided.
What subjects will I study?
A wide range of subjects is covered including:
- Dealing with incidents safely
- A systematic approach to incident management
- Collapse - causes and treatment
- External and internal bleeding
- Shock
- Infant, Child and Adult Resuscitation procedures
- Choking
- Hypothermia/hyperthermia
- Incident management scenarios
- Remote improvised technique
- Illness recognition and management
- Record keeping and action plans
