What qualification will I achieve?

VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Swedish Massage.

How long is the course?

The course is 30 weeks long and attendance is in the evenings, weekly for two hours. This will include practical work in the College salon. The College salon is run as a commercial salon and is open to the general public who pay for all treatments.

What are the entry requirements?

A good basic education is required. A caring approach and good communication skills are an asset. An interest in the subject is essential.

How will I learn?

This course is for people interested in complementary therapies. It is a good professional qualification and would enable you to practice Swedish Massage. High standards of personal appearance and conduct will be required.

Swedish Body Massage is applied to the back, shoulders, legs, arms, abdomen, face, neck and head areas. It induces relaxation and is very de-stressing.

You will learn about the following:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Client care and communication 
  • Salon practices, health and safety and salon hygiene
  • Swedish Full Body Massage Treatment and its effects and adaptations.

How will I be assessed?

All the practical work is assessed in the salon on paying clients; case studies; practical work and oral questions prove knowledge. There are written assignments on anatomy and physiology and health and safety and supporting employment standards, a written exam and a portfolio of evidence will be built up through the course.

Home study and practice will be required.

What opportunities will this lead to?

VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Swedish Massage is a professional qualification that would enable you to carry out full body massage treatments in a salon, health farm, spa, etc.

Further study may be other complementary therapies such as Indian Head Massage, Aromatherapy, Sports Massage, Reflexology or Beauty Therapy.

Are there any additional costs?

There is a dress code of plain purple tunic and brown trousers and low heeled closed toe shoes. (The uniform to be purchased through college). The college provides all equipment and tools needed for the course.
