Brickwork NVQ 2
This NVQ is a work-based qualification that is suitable for anyone who undertakes trowel activities in construction.
What qualification will I achieve?
You will be awarded a Brickwork NVQ at Level 2.
How long is the course?
This course typically takes 36 weeks to complete; this is dependent on the candidate's previous experience within the sector. Attendance is by Block/evening release and workplace assessments; an assessor will visit candidates in their workplace to train, assess and review them on a regular basis.
What are the entry requirements?
This NVQ is a work-oriented qualification and is suitable for those who are employed in a related role; a minimum of three years' relevant experience is required.
How will I learn?
Most teaching and learning is workshop-based. Students will be assessed by short practical and related knowledge tests for each unit of the course and will be required to submit evidence of the type and range of work they do from the workplace for assessment. When a given number of units have been successfully completed an NVQ is awarded.
This training is delivered on site (at the employer's premises/construction site).
What subjects will I study?
This course is designed to be part of a package of training for people employed as bricklayers.
- The following can be covered:
- Use and safety of scaffolding and ladders
- Selecting appropriate materials
- Setting out and preparing levels
- Building various types of wall construction
In addition, short courses can be designed to meet individual client requirements, for example:

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed on your ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with your work. This will include your knowledge and understanding of the unit and evidence that you provide to identify your performance.
The assessor assigned to you will agree what you need to provide as suitable evidence in relation to your own work situation and job role.
What opportunities will this lead to?
Successful students can progress towards technician and supervisory jobs in the building industry or go on to study Brickwork at NVQ Level 3.
