Foundation Degree in Construction Management

This programme will provide students with an understanding of the principles and application of a range of design and construction technologies, and the skills for managing construction projects.It will also provide a knowledge of the legal and regulatory processes within the construction industry.  The course will also provide an understanding of environmental, sustainability and health and safety issues.  A range of professional and intellectual skills will be developed, including site surveying, IT and the use of Computer Aided Design, pricing and problem solving.

Length of course
Part-time Three Years
Attendance: Two evenings
5-9 pm per week in term time

Entry Requirements
80 UCAS points – typically National Diploma/Certificate or A-level or Level 3 qualification, preferably in a construction related subject.  Plus normally a minimum of four GCSE passes at Grade C. Extensive relevant work experience will be taken into account for mature students.

Year Two Modules

  • Construction Management
  • Land Surveying, Measurement and Pricing
  • Construction Technology
  • Team Project
     

Year Three Modules

  • Contract Procedures
  • Work-based Module
  • Plus two out of the following optional modules:
  • Entrepreneurial Business Skills
  • Deconstruction and Remediation Management
  • Heritage and Restoration Management
  • Building Services Engineering

How will I Learn?
A mixture of lectures, workshops, discussions, tutorials, practical lab activities and work-based learning

How will I be assessed?
Written reports, groupwork, practical work, presentations, portfolio of design work, ICT skills etc.

Progression opportunities
Employment opportunities include site management, estimator/surveyor project management, surveyor.
Students may be able to progress on to the Honours Degree programme BSc Construction Management or another related honours degree.
