Using the Internet

This course is intended for anyone who would like to learn the skills and techniques to make better use of the internet.

What qualification will I achieve?

Delegates will receive a college certificate of attendance demonstrating that they have received the relevant training.

How long is the course?

This is a 4 hour program and is typically delivered in one half-day session or 2 evening sessions.
 
What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements.  This course is intended for those who have basic knowledge and experience of using computers.

How will I learn?

This course is based around demonstration and practical work to provide hands on experience.

What subjects will I study?

The course covers the following areas;

  • Accessing the internet,
  • Navigating through web-pages
  • Adjusting browser settings to optimise performance and meet needs (favourites, history, changing homepage, bookmarks, cookies, pop ups)
  • Using different search techniques (keywords, quotation marks, Boolean)
  • Downloading information from the internet Communicating information online
  • Sharing information online
  • Submitting information online
  • Understanding the need for safety and security practices when online
  • Safety and security when working online and laws and guidelines that must be followed

  • Microsoft Word – (Experienced)
  • Microsoft Access – (Novice, Experienced)
  • Microsoft Excel – (Novice, Intermediate or Advanced)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • ECDL Essentials
  • ECDL Extra

  • Microsoft Update (the changes from 2003 to 2007)
  • IT User Fundamentals

There are no additional costs; the quoted fee includes all relevant registration, exam fees and course book(s).
