What Subjects will I study?
Year One modules introduce the tools and techniques used to create and deliver digital media. Industry standard software is used to produce websites and interactive content for CD-ROMS. Students will be able to build a portfolio of digital and paper-based work.
Introduction to New Media Design and Technology – this module looks at the main hardware and software components in multi-media authoring, terminology and use of the Internet to source and verify technical documentation
Interactive Media Production – this module develops skills in applications software and introduces the technical language and central concept of of interactive media production.
Computer Graphics introduces students to fundamental computer graphics, and the production of professional graphic products.
Creative and Technical Development looks at the design process and ideas, concepts and techniques to solve design problems.
JavaScript for Interactive Design – this module will enable students to develop a reasonable competency in JavaScript programming language and introduces structured methods of interactive website design, development and testing.
Year Two modules will place skills in a professional context so that students learn to develop a working profile. Students will produce work to industry-level assignment briefs and undertake a work-based project.
Computer Graphics provides an opportunity for students to develop skills in 2D and 3D computer graphics and animation
Programming with ActionScript – this module teaches the use of ActionScript to create interactive web applications and introduces the concept of object oriented programming.
Interactive Product Authoring develops students’ ability to produce interactive multimedia products for delivery via the web and physical media such as CD-ROM, encouraging a professional approach to working with project stakeholders.
Dynamic Applications give students the knowledge to analyse and implement data-driven websites
Professional Practice requires the completion of small-scale work-based activities and enhances employability through work experience.
As well as specialist computing/technical/design skills, this course will develop general skills required for any career: effective communication, working as part of a group, research and organisation skills.

How will I be Assessed?
Coursework (computer exercises, design exercises, written assignments), independent research, tests and end-of-module examinations.
Progression Opportunities
Career opportunities would include:
Designer/Programmer – designing and developing web, animation or graphical software
Project Manager in a computer-media career area
Progression to an honours degree such as BSc Web & Multimedia or BSc Interactive Digital Media at the University of Central Lancashire.
