ECDL - Extra (BCS Level 2 iTQ Certificate)

ECDL Extra is intended to assess the main applications that users require. It allows individuals to develop their IT skills and enhance their career prospects by developing competency and confidence in a range of IT skills to get the most out of a computer. Employers are likely to obtain various benefits from providing employees with an opportunity to work towards this qualification, including savings in time and money through increased staff performance, a reduction in IT problems, increased job satisfaction amongst staff and increased staff retention. Encouraging staff to achieve this qualification demonstrates an investment in people and could potentially aid recruitment.

What qualification will I achieve?

Full Level 2 iTQ Certificate

How long is the course?

20 x 3 hour sessions

What are the entry requirements?

You should have previously achieved the BCS Essentials Certificate or equivalent.

How will I learn?

Each person on the course has their own computer and presentations will be made by tutors using computers, interactive whiteboards, overhead screens and printed notes.

Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

What subjects will I study?

To obtain this qualification you must successfully achieve the following units:

  • Word processing software (4 credits)
  • Spreadsheet software (4 credits)
  • Presentation software (4 credits)
  • Improving productivity using IT (4 credits – mandatory unit)

How will I be assessed?

There is a 1 hour assessment at the end of the mandatory unit and a 45 minute test at the end of each other unit.

What opportunities will this lead to?

Achievement of an ECDL Extra is a good starting point from which to build a career and qualification path that can be taken to higher levels:

  • E-Type (Level 2 Key board Skills)
  • BCS ECDL Advanced (Level 3)
  • NVQ Business Administration (Level 2 or 3)

Are there any additional costs?

Stationery, (folders, pens etc), A USB pen drive would be an advantage.
