Apprenticeship in IT Software, Web & Telecom Professionals
This apprenticeship contains pathways that cover many aspects of this industry. These pathways cover a wide range of general and specialist skills required in this fast paced industry. IT is an ever increasing important area of business with the majority of employers requiring these skills in the workplace.
There are two levels of apprenticeship with set entry requirements.
What are the entry requirements?
Apprentice Level 2
No formal entry requirements just an enthusiasm and real interest in a career in the catering industry.
Advanced Apprentice Level 3
An Apprenticeship at Level 2 or other equivalent qualification.
How will I learn?
Your Apprenticeship framework is made up of practical workbased training (with your employer). This training supports the theory and knowledge and general skill qualifications in your vocational area, as well as in mathematics, English, IT and personal development which you gain at college (either one day a week or on a block of study).
What subjects will I study?
Apprentice – Level 2 ICT Professional Competence Diploma:
This qualification will give you the starting point from which to specialise in your chosen pathway. Units include: health and safety, develop your own effectiveness and professionalism, customer care in ICT, IT project management, software installation and upgrade, system management and technical advice and guidance.
Advanced Apprentice – Level 3 ICT Professional Competence Diploma:
At this level you will be taking more responsibility in the workplace and may be supervising others. It is expected that those undertaking this route will continue on to a Foundation Degree. Units include: health and safety, develop your own effectiveness and professionalism, customer care in ICT, remote support for products and services and designing and developing a website. You will learn more about your chosen pathway and the options open to you in the workplace.
Apprentice - Level 2 Award in ICT Systems and Principles for IT Practitioners:
Units include: organisation and planning of own workload, computer forensics, software testing and web fundamentals.
Advanced Apprentice - Level 3 Certificate in ICT Systems and Principles for IT Professionals:
Units include: management and prioritisation of own schedule, customer care, hardware installation and web development.
Functional Skills
Functional Skills form part of your course. They help you to improve your English and Maths and to gain a qualification at either Level 1 (D-G at GCSE) or Level 2 (A-C at GCSE). Functional Skills support your main course as well as developing essential skills that you will need in the workplace and life in general. They are taught by specialists and meet your individual needs.
How will I be assessed?
The Apprenticeship is assessed on practical aptitude, a portfolio of work and external assessment. The technical certificate is assessed in your lessons through assignments set by your tutors. Functional Skills is assessed by examination and a portfolio of evidence.
What opportunities will this lead to?
Employment in the industry. The Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) can progress on to university.
How long is the course?
They usually take from one to three years to complete.
