BSc (Honours) Computer Systems Development (Top-Up)
This programme has been designed for students who already have a Foundation Degrees in Computing/IT, to complete a qualification to Honours level in response to both local and national demand. The course focuses on how computer and communications technologies are applied within a range of activities and on the social impact of such applications.

Year One Modules
Advanced Database Systems aims to develop the understanding and technical management skills required by a corporate database administrator. Students will explore new applications and technical issues arising from advances in technology and user demands. (20 credits)
Emerging Technologies offers students the opportunity to identify, research and evaluate new and emerging technologies in the field of computing and IT. This module will prepare students for the dissertation through the production of a research proposal. (20 credits)
Year Two Modules
Computer Systems Development Dissertation enables students to pursue an investigation in their chosen area of interest in an information technology discipline. The project will support students in employing techniques of investigation in a specific field of enquiry, project management, design, implementation and presentation skills in the completed study. (40 credits)
Two additional optional modules will be studied, one each year of the programme. These two will be from the following and will depend on demand after discussion with students:
Open Source Solutions investigates the management and use of a wide range of open source systems and application software. Applications are introduced from the open source community to service the needs of a business and to develop a successful strategy for the implantation of an open source policy in a business. (20 credits)
Database Driven Websites will cover programming techniques used to develop dynamic web sites where the information is extracted from a database. The focus is on the development of robust websites for business use, using industry standards and techniques. (20 credits)
Multi-Media for E-Learning provides students with the knowledge for using computers in educational settings by combining learning theory and instructional strategies to help students design software for learning and instruction. The latest technologies and media are investigated in terms of their use in a learning environment.
