Apprenticeship in Business

Apprenticeships in Business Administration are for anyone who is going to handle the day to day tasks in an office and provide the support role within a business or organisation.

There are two levels of apprenticeship with set entry requirements.

What are the entry requirements?

Apprentice Level 2
A minimum of four GCSEs at grades A - E, an NVQ Level 1, Diploma Level 1 or equivalent qualification.

Advanced Apprentice Level 3
An Apprenticeship at Level 2 or other equivalent qualification.

How will I learn?

Your Apprenticeship framework is made up of practical workbased training (with your employer). This training supports the theory and knowledge and general skill qualifications in mathematics, English, IT and personal development which you gain at college (either one day a week or on a block of study).

What subjects will I study?

Apprentice – Level 2
Units studied may include: Manage and
Improve own performance in a business environment, carrying out responsibilities at work, diary management, customer relations, solving business problems and taking minutes using a wide range of IT especially Word.

Advanced Apprentice – Level 3
Units studied may include: carrying out responsibilities at work and working within the business environment, design and produce business documents, procurement of products/services, co-ordinating projects, word processing, spreadsheets, leadership, and development.

Functional Skills

Functional Skills form part of your course. They help you to improve your English and maths and to gain a qualification at either Level 1 (D-G at GCSE) or Level 2 (A-C at GCSE).

Functional Skills support your main course as well as developing essential skills that you will need in the workplace and life in general. They are taught by specialists and meet your individual needs.

How will I be assessed?

The Apprenticeship is assessed on practical aptitude, a portfolio of work and external assessment. The technical certificate is assessed in your lessons through assignments set by your tutors. Functional Skills is assessed by examination and a portfolio of evidence.

What opportunities will this lead to?

The Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) can progress on to university or employment as a secretary or administrator.

How long is the course?

They usually take from one to three years to complete.
