What qualification will I achieve?
AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting
How long is the course?
There involves 2 sessions of three hours’ tuition and attendance at college over 36 weeks with extra sessions being required by arrangement.
The qualification will require at least an equal amount of home study.
What are the entry requirements?
Progression from Level 3 Diploma in Accounting or, in certain exceptional circumstances, direct entry due to prior qualifications and experience.
The AAT requires that students disclose any criminal records or financial barriers to membership e.g. county court judgements, bankruptcy etc. Applicants should seek advice from the AAT (www.aat.org.uk) to ensure they can meet these requirements for AAT student membership before enrolment takes place.
How will I learn?
Taught sessions and workshops.
What subjects will I study?
- Drafting financial statements
- Preparing budgets
- Measuring and reporting on financial performance
- Providing a report on ‘Internal control and accounting systems’**
- Credit management and debt control
- Calculating personal tax
How will I be assessed?
All units include computer based assessments with results being available approximately 6 weeks later.
** This unit requires a 3,500 – 4,000 word project to be submitted electronically.
What opportunities will this lead to?
Satisfactory completion of this qualification together with meeting other conditions may lead to membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians with permission to use the letters MAAT after the member’s name and access to ongoing support, including becoming a member in practice.
For those who wish to proceed, exemptions are available from the first year of professional accountancy qualifications (e.g. ACA, CIPFA, CIMA, ICAEW and ACCA)

Annual membership fee, AAT registration fee (unless already registered from previous years), exam fees and textbooks (See additional sheet)
