What qualification will I achieve?
AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
How long is the course?
One evening and one morning session over 34 weeks.
The qualification will require at least an equal amount of home study.
What are the entry requirements?
No specific academic entry requirements although students should have an adequate level of English to complete assessments and have a Level 1 standard of mathematics/Level 2 standard of English or equivalent.
The AAT requires that students disclose any criminal records or financial barriers to membership e.g. county court judgements, bankruptcy etc. Applicants should seek advice from the AAT (www.aat.org.uk) to ensure they can meet these requirements for AAT student membership before enrolment takes place.
How will I learn?
Taught sessions and workshops together with home study.
What subjects will I study?
- Basic Accounting 1 and 2, which includes double entry bookkeeping, recording cash and credit transactions
- Basic costing
- Working Effectively in Accounting and Finance
- Computerised Accounting (using Sage software)
- Professional Ethics (Apprentices only)
How will I be assessed?
All units involve computer based assessment and these are held at the college.
What opportunities will this lead to?
Students can, in agreement with the college, progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.
Are there any additional costs?
The AAT charges an annual membership fee and an initial registration fee. These are essential costs which must be paid in order to undertake the course. In addition, there are assessment fees and textbooks (see additional sheet).
